Maurice Herzog:
Annapurna -
klassisk, noget
langsommelig, skildring af
bestigningen af den første 8000 m top i 1950, samt
de forfærdende menneskelige omkostninger. Herzog var
ekspeditionens leder.
Andrew
Stevenson: The Annapurna Circuit - a personal
and very interesting account of Stevenson's trek
through the Himalayas, of the people he met, the
beauty of the landscape and his own spiritual
journey.
Andrew
Stevenson:
A Nepalese Journey. On
Foot Around the Annapurnas - Stevenson's
great photos and text provide a record of the
landscape of Nepal's Annapurna Himal, its peoples
and the physical experience of trekking.
(See some of his photos here)
Peter Matthiessen: The Snow
Leopard
(1978). A spiritual
journey into the Himalayas in search of the elusive
snow leopard. A beautiful account of the journey and
the natural environment with - to my mind - heavy
religious passages.
Jon Krakauer:
Into Thin Air / Op i det blå (1998) - a personal
account of how 10 climbers lost their lives over
several days on Everest in 1996
Christian
Nørgaard: Verdens top. 50 år på Everest
(Aschehoug 2003) - bogen
fokuserer på danske bjergbestigeres skildringer.
Det nepalesiske flyselskab, Nepal Airlines, har ofret to
geder for at mildne guden Akash Bhairav. Flyselskabet har været plaget af
tekniske problemer med et Boeing 757-passagerfly. Ved en hinduistisk
ceremoni ofrede selskabet derfor to geder i håb om at mildne himmelguden.
»Problemet med flyet er nu løst, og flyet har genoptaget sine flyvninger«,
siger Raju K.C. fra Royal Nepal Airlines til Reuters. Politiken 06 september 2007
