Sunset on Mount Everest

Knap
200 km nordøst for Kathmandu ligger Mt. Everest,
verdens højeste bjerg. Det rejser sig 8.848 meter
over havniveau med en mørk toppyramide, hvorfra der næsten
altid blæser en kridhvid snefane.
Hile to Everest
Området
hedder Khumbu. Sagarmatha National Park, som dækker
hele Khumbu-området, indeholder mange fine eksempler
på Himalayas højalpine natur.
I
Citat:

The Khumbu or
Everest region is the most popular trekking area in
Nepal. It would probably be the most popular
destination, but it is more difficult to get to Solu
Khumbu than to the Annapurna area. To get near Everest,
you must either walk for 10 days or fly to Lukla,
a remote mountain airstrip where flights are notoriously
unreliable.
Solu Khumbu
is justifiably famous, not only for its proximity to the
world's highest mountain (8848 metres), but also for its
Sherpa villages and monasteries. The primary goal of an
Everest trek is the Everest base camp at an
elevation of about 5340 metres. But you cannot see
Everest from the base camp, so most trekkers climb
Kala Pattar, an unassuming 5545-metre bump on the
southern flank of Pumori (7145 metres).

Arun
Kosi
/ Salpa
Bhanjyang
Dette er trekket fra
Hile i sydøst-Nepal via floden Arun Kosi
over passet
Salpa Bhanjyang til Lukla og Namche i Khumbu.
This trek traverses a wide
variety of ecosystems as well as cultural landscapes
as it climbs gradually from the mighty Arun River
(435m) across Salpa Bhanjyang (3349
m) to the Khumbu region.
The
route follows the same ground as H. W. Tilman on his
approach to the Khumbu Valley in the autumn of 1950.
