Luang Nam Tha
In the north of Laos
Luang Nam Tha and the surrounding hills are home to a huge
variety of tribal groups, many still speaking their own languages
and donning traditional dress

The silkworms are killed before the pupae emerge by dipping

Nam Ha National Biodiversity Conservation Area
From Luang Nam Tha I
went on a two-day trek to Ban Nam Lai, an Akha village deep in the
jungle of Nam Ha National Protected Area. (See
Green Discovery)
Luang Nam Tha's
Nam Ha National Biodiversity Conservation Area comprising
222,400 hectares of land ranging from the lowlands of the Luang
Namtha Plain to 2,000 meter peaks of its northern highlands includes
some of the most significant and largest contiguous wilderness areas
in Laos. The altitude ranges form 560 meters on the plain to 2,094
meters at the highest peak and thus, supports a wide variety of
flora.

Through the jungle towards
Ban Nam Lai village
We spent much energy trying to keep our balance on the
very wet and muddy trails - and picking off leeches which
attached themselves to our bodies
