Gurung Culture Trek
Annapurna, Nepal Nov. 2006

The rice harvest
This trek takes you to remote villages
off the beaten track. Sikles (Siklis) is a beautiful and
traditional Gurung village perched on a hill at an altitude of 2000
mtrs. It is the second largest Gurung village in Nepal. Sikles lies
above Madi Khola, overlooking Annapurna IV to the north and
Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal to the east.

Sikles doesn’t have a proper
guesthouse, but a local house provides shelter for tourists. Four
young tourists stay here the same night as me, and at night there is
an unlikely birthday party round a fire in the courtyard with mp3
music rocking across the mountain side.
